Are Sheets Considered Delicates?

When it comes to your laundry categories, it’s important to take into consideration the type of fabric that your bedding consists of. If you want to figure out whether or not you should be using the delicate cycle on your next load, take a look at the various types of bedding materials to pay attention to and keep in mind some general tips that will have your bedding lasting years to come.

What Materials Are Delicate?

Fabrics like silk, lace, wool, and other bedding that may have intricate embroidery and other details should be put on delicate when washed. Some of these fabrics need extra careful handling in order to maintain the same level of quality for as long as possible. While cotton is usually not required to be washed in a delicate cycle, Egyptian cotton is a much more high quality and luxurious fabric that should be put on a gentle cycle for better care.

How to Make Your Bedding Last

Regardless of how you wash your sheets, pillowcases, and other bed linens, there are certain things to take into consideration and apply to every wash, store and use in order to maintain the level of quality and durability for as long as possible.

Use a Gentle Cycle

If you’re not sure how to properly wash your bedding set, it’s always a good idea to use the gentle or delicate cycle to avoid any damage.

Cold Water

Using cold water allows for less risk of shrinkage which is a good tactic to keep in mind when washing your bedding.

Mild Detergent

We recommend using a mild, liquid, and biodegradable detergent that is free of strong stain-removing chemicals, whiteners, brighteners, softeners, or bleach, as these harsh chemicals can weaken the fibers and cause color loss over time.

Avoid Overloading

Avoid overfilling the washing machine by only washing one unfolded bedding set at a time. This keeps the sheets from damage and abrasion as well as avoiding damage to the washer.

Dry on Low

Refrain from using excessive or high heat as it can weaken the natural fibers and increase shrinkage. Preventative care is the key to natural wrinkle-free linens! Remove your bedding just before it's fully dry and make the bed to ensure it doesn't shrink, and wrinkles don't set in.

Store Properly

It's advisable to store bedding in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area. Wrapping the bedding in a fabric pouch or pillowcase provided helps prevent permanent yellowing and ensures that outside dirt or odors do not seep in.
